Obverse description Central field bearing the royal name and title inscribed in two lines in Gothic uncial characters, reading EDVVARDVS REX AGLE FRAE. The lettering is bold and irregularly spaced, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the Plantagenet Aquitaine issues. A surrounding peripheral legend runs along the coin's edge, partially visible due to the irregular flan. The overall design is austere and text-based, with no figural effigy, typical of this series of Gascon petty coinage.
