Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Charles V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Renaissance manner, occupying the majority of the field. The portrait displays characteristic naturalistic detail in the hair and drapery, consistent with the Milanese workshop tradition of the mid-sixteenth century. A beaded inner border frames the design. The Latin legend IMP CAES CAROLVS V AVG runs around the periphery, identifying the emperor in his imperial titles, separated by pellets.
