Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned Medici dynastic shield within an elaborate baroque cartouche with foliate scrollwork supports. The shield displays the characteristic Medici palle (six roundels or balls) arranged in their traditional pattern. A ducal crown surmounts the escutcheon. The circumferential legend in Latin reads COSMVS III D G M DVX ETRVR, with the mint date 1718 placed at the base of the design below the shield. The coin exhibits a milled or grained border.
