Obverse description Two allegorical female figures — Caritas and the personification of the city of Vienna — stand facing each other at the centre, jointly supporting a large heraldic shield bearing the date 1914 and a cross, with radiating sunbeams in the upper field. To the left, a seated veiled woman with an infant receives charity, while to the right a wounded soldier in uniform sits being comforted; the engraver's signature GURSCHNER appears along the right rim. The legend WIEN WÄHREND DES WELTKRIEGES. curves along the lower border.
