The Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775 opened the first exchange of fire in the American Revolutionary War — the "shot heard round the world," as Emerson later called it. British regulars under Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith had marched from Boston overnight to seize colonial munitions stored in Concord, and the confrontation on Lexington Green with Captain John Parker's militia was, by most accounts, an accidental escalation rather than a planned stand.
The Solomon Islands issues commemoratives under licensing arrangements that have no historical connection to the subject matter. Charles III appears here as the issuing monarch on a coin commemorating a war fought to remove his ancestor from power.
