Obverse description The crowned coat of arms of the City of Charleroi displayed centrally, with the Belgian lion rampant to its right, holding a sword; the whole device rests on a decorative plinth flanked by laurel branches. The legend arcs in a semicircle along the upper rim, and a cartouche below carries the secondary inscription. The maker's signature appears at the lower centre.
