| Obverse description | Draped bust of King João V facing right, wearing a long curled allonge wig in the Baroque fashion, with lace cravat visible at the truncation. The effigy occupies the majority of the field, rendered in high relief with fine detailing on the hair and drapery. The circular Latin legend reads IOANNES . V . D . G . PORT . ET . ALG . REX, interrupted by a stop at the top, with the date 1731 placed in the lower exergual area beneath the bust. The field is framed by a finely beaded inner border running the full circumference. |
