Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms displayed in elaborate Baroque style, featuring the central escutcheon of Portugal — an oval shield charged with five inescutcheons in cross arrangement, each bearing five bezants — surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is set within an ornate cartouche of acanthus scrollwork and foliate mantling that fills the field. No legend appears; the entire reverse composition is devoted to the heraldic design. A finely milled dentilated border frames the design.
