| Obverse description | Crowned royal bust facing right occupies the central field, rendered in a crude but characteristic hammered style typical of peripheral Iberian mints of the early seventeenth century. The portrait is heavily stylized, with the crown and facial features only partially legible due to the irregular flan and uneven strike. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading + PHI · DEI · GRA · R · MAIO, abbreviating the royal title of Philip III as King of Majorca. The legend is separated from the central device by an inner beaded border, itself incompletely impressed. The overall strike is notably weak and off-center, consistent with hand-hammered coinage of the Ibizan workshop. |
