Reverse description The Persian Great King or satrap, crowned with a tall kidaris, seated in a two-wheeled chariot drawn left by two horses. The king holds a scepter or lotus flower and is attended by an armed charioteer or running figure to the right. A smaller attendant figure kneels or runs before the horses at lower left. The spoked wheel of the chariot is rendered in fine detail. The scene is enclosed within a beaded border and set on a ground line, reflecting the strong Achaemenid artistic influence prevalent on Sidonian coinage under Baalshillem II. A Phoenician inscription identifying the king appears in the field.
