Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in bold naskh/thuluth script, reading 'Sultan Mehmed bin Ibrahim', identifying the ruler as Sultan Mehmed IV, son of Sultan Ibrahim I. The inscription is arranged in two or three lines across the flan, with decorative dot ornaments interspersed between letterforms. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat oval flan typical of hammered Ottoman silver coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. The fields show characteristic uneven surfaces and partially clipped edges consistent with the hand-struck technique of the period.
