Obverse lettering لا اله الا الله وحده لا شرك له / بسم الله ضرب هذا الدرهم بإفريقية سنة ثلث ومئة
Reverse description The reverse is likewise fully epigraphic, following the canonical post-reform Umayyad dirham format introduced by Abd al-Malik. The central field displays Quranic verse 112 (Surat al-Ikhlas) in Kufic script: 'Allah is One, Allah is Eternal; He neither begets nor is begotten, nor is there any equal to Him.' The outer marginal legend carries a portion of Quranic verse 9:33 in Arabic: 'Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, who sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists are averse.' The script is executed in the angular Kufic style consistent with Umayyad mint practice of the early 2nd century AH.
