Obverse description Central field dominated by the AH date numerals (as struck, here 1278) arranged within a divided horizontal band, flanked above by a crescent symbol and below by pellets. The design is framed by a border of raised dots encircling the irregular flan, characteristic of Moroccan hammered silver coinage of the mid-19th century. Arabic script elements appear in the upper portion of the field. The overall composition is typical of the sharifian mint style, with no portrait, the entire design being epigraphic and symbolic.
