Additional information

Shams al-Din Ildegiz founded the Eldiguzid atabegs of Azerbaijan as a former Seljuq slave-commander who parlayed a grant of Arran into a dynastic base that would eventually control much of northwestern Iran. The citation of the Seljuq sultan Mas'ud on this issue is not deference — it is political theater. Ildegiz was effectively the power behind the Seljuq throne in this period, serving as atabeg to Mas'ud's successors while real authority rested in Tabriz.

The billon composition reflects the degraded silver economy of 12th-century Azerbaijan, where Seljuq monetary infrastructure had fractured into regional production with inconsistent alloy standards.
