| Obverse description | Aniconic field bearing multiple horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged across the flan, typical of Buyid-era dirhams. The legends invoke Islamic religious formulae and include the name and titles of the Buyid ruler Samsam al-dawla. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered production. The strike is moderately well-centered, with some weakness at the periphery. No figural imagery is present, the entire design being composed of epigraphic elements in the tradition of Abbasid-influenced coinage. |
