Obverse description Central field occupied by the Shahada inscription arranged in three horizontal lines of bold Kufic Arabic script, reading: 'There is no God but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' The legends are contained within a single circular border composed of small, regularly spaced denticles or pellets running along the inner rim. The overall design is aniconic and purely epigraphic, consistent with Abbasid-influenced Samanid coinage of the 10th century. The flan is irregularly shaped, characteristic of hand-hammered production, with some weakness of strike visible at the margins.
