Obverse description Irregular square hammered silver flan bearing a central Arabic inscription arranged in multiple lines within the field. The legend is partially obscured by the uneven strike and worn surfaces characteristic of late Wattasid coinage. A decorative border composed of small pellets frames the central inscription on at least one side. The die is not fully centered on the flan, leaving portions of the design near the edges weakly struck or absent.

Additional information

The Wattasid sultanate was in terminal collapse during this window. Muhammad III al-Qasri held nominal authority, but the Sa'adian dynasty had already seized Marrakesh in 1525 and was systematically dismantling Wattasid control of Morocco from the south. These fractional silver pieces were struck at a moment when the dynasty's effective territory had contracted to little more than Fez and its immediate hinterlands — a shrinking monetary zone for a shrinking state. The Sa'adians would extinguish the Wattasids entirely by 1554.
