Obverse description Central field contains three horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic inscription arranged within a linear square border. The inner square is surrounded by a circular margin bearing a continuous Kufic legend running along the entire circumference. The overall layout follows the classic Andalusian Umayyad dirham format, with text occupying virtually the entire flan. The die work is characteristic of the Córdoban hammered coinage of the early eleventh century, struck on an irregular planchet.
