Reverse description Central field bearing a three-line Arabic inscription arranged horizontally, giving the mint name and Hijri date, surrounded by a border of large beads running along the inner edge of the flan. The lettering is bold and deeply struck relative to the flan surface, with characteristic overlapping strokes typical of Moroccan hammered silver coinage. The inscription reads 'Darb bi-Fas' (struck in Fes) followed by the Hijri year. The coin's irregular planchet and slightly off-centre strike are consistent with hand-hammered Alaouite monetary production of the mid-nineteenth century.
