| Obverse description | Central field contains multiple lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged within a double circular border, the inner border being a plain raised ring and the outer a beaded or dotted rim. The legends in the central area proclaim the Islamic profession of faith (shahada) in the Abbasid-era formulaic style typical of Taifa-period dirhams. The flan is broad and irregular, characteristic of hammered silver coinage of al-Andalus in the eleventh century. The overall style reflects the provincial mint tradition of the upper Ebro valley under the Hudid dynasty. |
