Additional information

Anonymous dirhams of this type were struck at Bulghar — the primary northern mint of the Golden Horde — during a politically turbulent stretch that saw multiple khans cycle through power in rapid succession. The Jochid state had no consistent practice of naming the ruling khan on every issue, particularly at provincial mints, making attribution to a specific reign genuinely difficult. The pious Arabic inscription functioned as dynastic branding rather than individual attribution, asserting the legitimacy of Mongol-Muslim rule at a moment when the Horde's conversion to Islam was still consolidating under the shadow of Berke Khan's earlier push.
