| Obverse description | The obverse displays a multi-line Arabic legend filling the entire field of this small, irregularly shaped hammered silver flan. The inscription, rendered in a bold and somewhat cursive Naskh-influenced script typical of Golden Horde coinage, proclaims the royal titulature of Khan Khizr, reading 'Sultan the Just Khizr Khan, may his reign be prolonged.' The lettering is deeply struck and raised, occupying the full diameter of the coin with no border or decorative frame. Characteristic of mid-14th-century Golden Horde dangs, the die is slightly larger than the flan, causing some truncation of the legend at the edges. The silver surface shows natural toning with areas of darker patina in the recesses between the letter strokes. |
