Dirham 'Dang' - Jani Beg Saray al-Jadida mint

Jani Beg's reign over the Golden Horde coincided with the catastrophic westward spread of the Black Death through the steppes in 1346–47 — his forces besieging Caffa are credited by some medieval sources with catapulting plague-infected corpses over the city walls, an act that may have accelerated the epidemic's entry into Europe. Whether or not that account is precise, the Horde itself lost enormous population in the years immediately following, and coinage from Saray al-Jadida after 1348 reflects the disruption: output became irregular and die preparation inconsistent.

The Sagdeeva 257 attribution places this firmly within a well-documented but numerically scarce emission from the new Saray mint.
