Obverse description Central field bearing a two-line Arabic legend in bold, angular script within a rectangular cartouche, reading 'al-Sultan al-'Adil / Jani Beg Khan' (the Just Sultan / Jani Beg Khan), conferring the royal titulature of the Golden Horde khan. The cartouche is framed by a beaded inner border and an outer dotted rim following the irregular flan edge. The die is struck with typical hammered technique resulting in slight off-center definition. The script is executed in a monumental Kufic-influenced style characteristic of Jochid coinage of the mid-14th century.
