| Obverse description | Central field bearing the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in three lines of Kufic Arabic script: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no associate.' A circular marginal legend in Kufic script runs along the inner border, citing the mint name Nahr Tira and the Hijri date of issue, preceded by the Basmala. The entire design is framed within a plain inner circle and a dotted outer border, characteristic of early Umayyad epigraphic coinage. No figural imagery appears; the composition is purely calligraphic in the reform dirham tradition established by Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. |
