| Obverse description | Central field bearing three lines of Kufic Arabic inscription arranged horizontally within a plain inner circle, conveying the first part of the Shahada. The inner circle is enclosed by a circular marginal legend in Kufic script running along the inner border of the coin. The field is flat and undecorated, typical of the purely epigraphic Umayyad reformed dirham style introduced under Abd al-Malik. The coin exhibits the irregular flan characteristic of hammered North African issues of the period. |
