Obverse description Central field contains the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) arranged in four horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic script, reading: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner, Muhammad is the messenger of God, He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists are averse.' The inscriptions are enclosed within a single-line inner circle and surrounded by a circular marginal legend, all executed in the angular Kufic style characteristic of early Umayyad reformed coinage introduced under Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as typical of hammered silver dirhams of this period.
