Obverse description Central field features a square cartouche inscribed within a circle, bearing the name and titles of Saladin (al-Malik al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf) in Kufic script. The marginal legend, also in Kufic script, carries the Shahada (Kalima), the Islamic declaration of faith, running around the circumference between the inner circle and the coin's edge. The overall layout follows the classic Ayyubid square-in-circle design characteristic of the period.

Reverse description Central field features a square cartouche inscribed within a circle, with the mint name Hamah appearing above the name and titles of the Abbasid Caliph al-Nasir li-Din Allah, all rendered in Kufic script. The marginal legend, in Kufic script, records the date of striking in AH, with the example dated 583 AH (1188 AD). The reverse follows the standard Ayyubid format acknowledging nominal Abbasid suzerainty alongside the local ruler's authority.
