Additional information

Al-Mujahid Ali ruled the Rasulid sultanate of Yemen for over four decades, a reign remarkable for its duration and its patronage of learning — his court produced significant works on natural history, including the sultan's own encyclopedic writings on agriculture and zoology. The Rasulids operated mints at Ta'izz and Aden, cities whose commercial importance to Indian Ocean trade gave their silver issues wide regional circulation well beyond Yemeni borders.

The A#1108 type falls within a dynasty known for unusually refined die-cutting relative to contemporary Islamic provincial issues.
