| Obverse description | Central field contains a multi-line Arabic religious inscription arranged in three horizontal lines within a beaded inner circle. The primary legend reads the shahada (declaration of faith) alongside the name of Caliph al-Mu'tamid. An inner marginal band carries a Quranic verse (Quran 9:33), while the outer margin bears the mint and date formula beginning with the basmala, all executed in the angular Kufic script characteristic of Abbasid silver coinage of the third Islamic century. The coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan with a slightly ragged edge, typical of hammered Abbasid dirhams of this period. |
