Reverse description Purely epigraphic reverse in standard Abbasid style, with no figurative elements. The central field bears a four-line Arabic inscription reading الخليفة المهدى / مما أمر به / هارون / بن امير المؤمنين (The Caliph al-Mahdi, by the order of Harun, son of the Commander of the Faithful), identifying both the reigning caliph and the crown prince Harun al-Rashid as the issuing authority. The inscription is set within a single inner circle. The marginal legend between the inner circle and the outer beaded border carries the Quranic verse from Sura 9:33: محمد رسول الله ارسله بالهدى و دين الحق ليظهره على الدين كله ولو كره المشركون. A small hole is visible near the lower right rim, indicating the coin was at some point used as a pendant or mounted piece.
