Reverse description The reverse follows the standard Abbasid dirham format. The central field presents four lines of Arabic text identifying the Ikhshidid ruler Ahmad ibn Ali with his title al-Amir, surmounted by the word 'lillah' (to God). A continuous marginal legend in Kufic script carries a Quranic phrase from Sura al-Rum (30:4-5), invoking divine authority and the rejoicing of believers. The coin displays the characteristic irregular flan and bold, slightly uneven strike typical of provincial hammered coinage of late Ikhshidid Egypt and the Levant.
