Obverse description Central field contains three lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged within a linear square border, conveying the Islamic declaration of faith. A circular marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script runs within a beaded border along the periphery, recording the mint name al-Andalus and the year of issue. The overall design is aniconic and purely epigraphic, consistent with Umayyad monetary tradition. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered silver dirhams of this period.
