Additional information

Perdiccas III ruled Macedonia for roughly five years before dying in battle against the Illyrians around 360 BC — a defeat so catastrophic that it killed 4,000 Macedonian soldiers alongside him and left the kingdom on the verge of collapse. It was his younger brother Philip who salvaged what remained, ultimately transforming that broken state into the engine that would conquer the known world. This small silver issue belongs to the reign that made Philip's rise necessary.
