| Obverse description | The Chimaera, the mythological fire-breathing hybrid creature, depicted standing left in high relief with its right forepaw raised. The beast is rendered with a lion's body and head, a goat's head rising from the back, and a serpentine tail. The letters ΣE appear in the lower field beneath the creature, serving as an abbreviated ethnic for Sikyon. The overall style is characteristic of the bold, vigorous engraving tradition of the Peloponnesian mints of the early Hellenistic period. |
