| Obverse description | Youthful male head facing right, identified as Herakles, wearing the lion-skin headdress with the scalp and jaws rendered in fine detail atop the flowing curly hair. The facial features are rendered in fine South Italian style, with a softly modeled cheek, slightly parted lips, and a serene expression. The field is plain, with no legend or border visible. The flan is irregularly shaped and slightly convex, typical of hammered Tarentine small silver coinage of the late fourth to early third century BC. |

| Reverse description | Phalanthos or a youthful male figure, nude, kneeling or striding to the right while grappling with a large dolphin, depicted in a dynamic composition characteristic of Tarentine coinage. To the left of the central group, a partial Greek legend is arranged vertically in the field. The reverse type alludes to the mythological foundation story of Taras, son of Poseidon, who was said to have been saved from shipwreck by a dolphin. The style is vigorous and energetic, consistent with Tarentine workshop production of the period referenced by Vlasto 1354–1356. |
