Additional information

The Chalkidean League was a federal union of Greek cities on the Chalkidike peninsula, formed — according to Thucydides — around 432 BC during Spartan-backed efforts to destabilize Athenian influence in the northern Aegean. Olynthos served as its administrative hub, and the League's coinage was among the earliest federal issues in the Greek world, asserting collective political identity at a moment when such entities were still constitutionally novel.

This diobol falls within the League's earliest emission period, before the Olynthian destruction by Sparta in 379 BC truncated the series entirely.
