Obverse description Central device consisting of a stylized triple-towered castle within a beaded inner circle, the towers rendered in a characteristic Romanesque-Gothic transitional style with arched gateways at the base. Below the castle, the mint mark 'B' for Burgos appears in the field between the inner and outer circles. The surrounding legend reads ALF REX CASTELLE, disposed around the periphery of the coin in Gothic minuscule lettering, separated by ornamental crosses at the cardinal points.
