Reverse description A long cross pattee divides the reverse field into four quarters, a standard design motif employed on medieval Iberian deniers. Two floral or annulet ornaments are visible in the lateral quarters, flanking the cross. The circumferential Latin legend + VALENCIE identifies the issuing city of Valencia, enclosed within a beaded border. The design is characteristic of the Valencian dinero type struck under James I following the Christian reconquest and establishment of the Kingdom of Valencia.
