Obverse description Central field displays a stylized triple-towered castle, rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The castle features three prominent crenellated towers with an arched gateway visible at the base, characteristic of the royal arms of Castile. The surrounding legend, partially legible on the irregular flan, reads F REX CASTELLE, identifying Fernando IV as King of Castile. The design is executed in the crude but vigorous style typical of late 13th- to early 14th-century Castilian hammered billon coinage.
