Obverse description Central field displays a bold cross pattée dividing the coin into four quarters, each containing a decorative motif or pellet device. The Latin legend MONETA runs along the peripheral field, partially visible on the irregular flan. The overall design is executed in the characteristic crude hammered style of 13th-century Castilian billon coinage, with strong relief on the cross arms and typical die wear in the quarters.

Reverse description The reverse presents a rampant lion passant to the right, rendered in the stylized Romanesque manner typical of Leonese coinage of the reign of Fernando III. The lion, symbol of the Kingdom of León, fills the central field with dynamic energy despite the crude hammered execution. The circumferential Latin legend LEGIONIS encircles the design within the irregular flan border. The overall die workmanship reflects the provincial mint style of La Coruña during the mid-13th century.
