Obverse description Crowned bust of Philip II facing right in profile, rendered in low relief in the characteristic crude hammered style of Majorcan coinage. The royal crown surmounts the head prominently, its details partially worn. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading + FILIP9 : REX : ARAG, with the numeral 9 serving as a medieval abbreviation for 'us'. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, typical of hand-struck Iberian minor coinage of the sixteenth century.
