Obverse description Crowned bust of Alfonso XI facing left in profile, depicted in a stylised medieval manner with flowing hair visible beneath a prominent crown adorned with fleur-de-lis finials. A crescent or star device appears to either side of the king's head, characteristic of the cornado type. The effigy is rendered in low relief typical of Castilian hammered billon coinage of the mid-14th century. A beaded inner border encircles the central device, with the Latin legend disposed around the periphery of the flan.
