Obverse description Crowned bust of the king facing left, depicted above a schematic castle motif, rendered in the rough, high-relief style characteristic of Castilian hammered coinage of the mid-12th century. Mintmarks appear to the left and right of the royal effigy. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the circular legend occupying the outer field.

Obverse lettering CASTELA

Reverse description A plain Greek cross with equal arms divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each left plain, set within a beaded inner circle. The cross extends nearly to the inner circle, a design typical of Iberian billon dineros of the Reconquista period. The encircling legend in Latin runs between the inner beaded border and the irregular hammered edge.
