Obverse description Facing crowned royal bust of Alfonso VII rendered in crude medieval style, the effigy depicted with stylized facial features and flowing hair or beard below the crown. The bust is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend disposed around the periphery in the field. The execution is characteristic of Iberian hammered billon coinage of the mid-twelfth century.
