Obverse description Central plain cross with equal arms set within a beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four quarters. A crown or ornamental device appears above the cross at the top of the inner circle. The legend, reading ANFVS REX (Alphonse King), runs in the outer annulus between the beaded inner circle and a beaded outer border, with small lozenge or star-shaped decorative elements interspersed between the letters. The overall design is characteristic of the Romanesque hammered coinage of medieval Iberia.
