| Reverse description | Central Zoroastrian fire altar depicted in architectural form with a stepped base and plinth, flames rising prominently from the altar top. Two attendant figures flank the altar on either side, each standing and facing inward toward the sacred fire, rendered in the typical Sasanian devotional style. Small globes appear at either side of the altar in the field. A beaded border frames the entire design, and a short Inscriptional Pahlavi legend identifying the king appears in the reverse field. |

| Additional information |
Shapur III's reign lasted just five years, ended by his own nobles — according to later sources, he was killed when his tent was collapsed on him while he slept. His coinage is correspondingly scarce. The Göbl I classification places this among the earliest die groupings of the reign, before the type was refined.
