Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Shapur II facing right, wearing the distinctive Sasanian royal crown surmounted by a tiara and korymbos (the characteristic hair ball encased in a fabric globe). A horizontal ribbon extends from the left side of the crown. The effigy is rendered in the high-relief hammered tradition of Sasanian coinage, with bold facial features. A Pahlavi legend surrounds the royal portrait in the field.
