| Obverse description | Hammered gold dinar struck at Misr (Fustat) during the reign of Muhammad al-Ikhshid. The central field is occupied by four horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic inscription arranged within a double linear border, containing the shahada and the name of the Abbasid caliph. An inner dotted border separates the central legend from a circular outer marginal legend giving the mint name, date, and Quranic formula. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border, characteristic of Abbasid-influenced Ikhshidid gold coinage. |
