Obverse description Bust of Kavadh I facing right, wearing an elaborate Sasanian crown with crescent and globes, adorned with ribbons and a diadem. The king is depicted in profile with fine facial features characteristic of late Sasanian portraiture. A star appears in the upper field before the royal effigy. The bust is rendered in the typical hammered relief of small Sasanian gold coinage. A Pahlavi inscription identifying the king appears in the field.
